Originally, I grew up in Oak Park, IL (9 miles west of downtown Chicago). I graduated from Carthage College with a BA in History/Geography. I did not find a husband in 4 years, so I “had” to continue on in school. I completed Graduate Studies at Indiana State Univ. in Geography. While there, I met/married my husband, John, of 32 years.(I was just happy I didn’t have to get a Doctorate to find a husband!)
We lived in Louisville, KY and St Louis, MO while John finished his college and I worked for the U.S. Defense Department. There I created Cruise Missile and Space Shuttle Guidance. We moved back to Chicagoland (Munster, IN) when we began having children; I left that career behind.
I was a stay-at-home mom for 12 yrs, and volunteered TONS of time in church activities. When the kids went to school, I was hired in a church as Office Mgr. Since then I have held many positions – continuously working in churches. I LOVE working in The Church. I think I finally figured out what I want to do when I grow up.
We moved to Huntington, IN when John’s plant closed. I became a widow while working at Taylor Chapel United Methodist (Maysville Rd and Meijer Dr) in Ft Wayne.I decided to give up the 80 mile round trip commute and moved to the NE side of Ft Wayne. Eventually, I got back in the dating game (internet dating– OH MY! What a trip at my age!!), where I met/married my wonderful new husband, Scott Dickey. We just celebrated 2 years of marriage in January, 2019.
My daughter’s family, Jill and Shane Haskins, live in Fort Wayne, with their 3 children – Caleb, Hannah, and Luke. Tom and Courtney Powley, (son/daughter-in-law) live in LaPorte, IN and are expecting twins; a boy and a girl…It will be their first! (Ha Ha Ha – they have no idea what they are in for!!)
In 2017, I officially retired, (you see how well that took!), but came out of retirement to take this part-time position of Data Entry Director. I love this church!!! The people;the preaching; the spiritual growth…God certainly knew what he was doing in bringing Scott and me here.
Please, come visit The Pointe Church. I guarantee you will NOT be disappointed! And when you do, be sure to look for me and say, “Hi!”
